Implications for companies and the products they sell

In June 2021, the Congress of the Republic approved a new Food Labeling Law in Colombia that seeks for consumers to directly understand the nutritional value of processed foods, in other words, the label will provide information on whether the product is high in sodium, sugar or saturated fats.

The Ministry of Health established the requirements for nutritional labeling and the front seal that the packaging of processed products sold in Colombia must comply with, in order to carry out the redesign of the packaging that complies with the Law, companies have 18 months to implement the changes.

According to the Ministry of Health, the objective of 'Junk Food' is to present consumers with sufficiently clear and understandable nutritional information about the product.
